Men’s Bath “Hangan-no-Yu”

Mount Hangan, the mountain in Matsushima that Minamoto no Yoshitsune stopped by when escaping to Oshu Fujiwara no Hidehira’s side.
The men’s bath was named “Hangan-no-Yu” to mourn the hero’s misfortunes.
Named after the official Minamoto no Yoshitsune, this bath, in other words the hero’s bath, lets you enjoy the scenery of Matsushima while keeping the memory of Yoshitsune alive.

Women’s Bath “Shizuka-no-Yu”

Shizuka Gozen, who loved Minamoto no Yoshitsune, followed him as he was pursued by Oshu Fujiwara no Hidehira, and took refuge here in Matsushima for a while.
Shizuka Gozen must have stood here on Mount Hangan, thinking of him. “Shizuka-no-Yu” was named with heroic Shizuka Gozen in mind.
Gazing at the seas of Matsushima from the open-air bath calls to mind the spirit of Shizuka Gozen in the days of yore.

Open-air bath

Sunrise over Matsushima Bay revere the sunrise from the open-air bath. Enjoy the view of Matsushima Bay from the bathtub, which juts out so as to blend in naturally.

Bathing Time Information

The public baths at Taikanso face the Pacific Ocean and open according to sunrise times.
Opening times are as listed in the table.
*The public and open-air bath at the hotel use heated up water. It is not a natural hot spring.
